Bearded scholar in a study with books and a dog

A bearded man with a golden halo, wearing a long dark grey hooded robe, stands in a study beside a tall wooden bookshelf holding open books and stacked volumes. A shaggy brown animal sits at his feet, reaching up toward his hand. The panel is gilded tempera on wood, with warm ochre walls and a red-tiled floor.
