Black woodpecker with red crest, plate from Catesby's Natural History

A hand-colored engraved plate from a natural history book shows a large black woodpecker with a red crest and pale bill clinging to a dark tree trunk. Its pale wing, white neck stripe, and a branch of narrow leaves and round seed pods fill the page beside printed text and wide cream margins.
