Coloured lithograph with a zodiac sky above seated men at a map table, a burning city, ships, and a woman beside a Union Jack.

Astronomy: Apocalyptic Scenes with Napoleon III over a Map, 1858

A coloured lithograph in allegorical style. A celestial sphere with zodiac signs and planetary symbols fills the top, above seated men at a table with a map marked France, a shipwreck and burning city in the background, and a robed woman with a Union Jack at right. Figures wear uniforms, and the composition is crowded with objects.
