Painting of the Annunciation: a winged angel in a patterned gold and red robe greets the Virgin in blue beside a red bed and a window onto a courtyard.

The Annunciation, Hans Memling, ca. 1465–70

An angel in a richly patterned crimson and gold cope with green-edged wings kneels at left, hand raised in greeting, while the Virgin Mary sits in a blue mantle beside a lectern with an open book and a white lily. A red canopied bed and an arched window opening onto a courtyard fill the background, rendered in oil on wood with fine detail.
