Death Above a Lazar House: Stipple Engraving after Fuseli, 1813

A dark stipple engraving shows a crowded lazar house where ailing figures sprawl, slump and cling to one another beneath a looming winged skeletal figure. A pale, emaciated nude man stretches his arm upward at center, while a seated woman and a bent figure at right gesture in despair.
