Woodcut of a bearded astronomer in a robe marking a globe with dividers in a study, with a second globe and a window view.

Astronomer with Dividers and Globe, Woodcut by Jost Amman, 1568

A bearded man in a long robe leans over a celestial globe in a study, using dividers to mark points on its surface. A second globe and an armillary-like sphere sit on the table, with clouds and a distant building visible through a window at left. The fine parallel line work of the woodcut defines the drapery and the curtain at right.
