Hand-coloured etching of people fleeing a swarm of insects through a colonnaded Egyptian city street rendered in deep perspective.

The Plague of Insects: Coloured Etching, c. 1775-1779

A hand-coloured etching of a crowded Egyptian city in strong perspective, with figures on horseback and on foot fleeing or swatting at a swarm in the streets. Classical colonnades frame the foreground while towers and domes recede into the distance, and German and French captions below name the fourth plague.
