Pale stucco head of the Buddha with serene downcast eyes, small curled hair knobs, and a faint smile, broken off at the neck against a dark gray background.

Head of Buddha, stucco sculpture, 5th–6th century

A carved stucco head of the Buddha shows a serene face with downcast eyes, a slight smile, a raised urna mark on the brow, and tightly curled hair rendered as small knobs. The neck breaks off unevenly at the base, and faint traces of red pigment remain on the surface and lips.
