Pencil drawing of a scowling older man with curly hair, chin resting on his clenched hand beside an ornate cane.

Pencil study of a scowling man, from Charles Bell's Essays on Expression

A pencil drawing on pale paper shows an older man with curly, thinning hair, scowling with a furrowed brow and narrowed eyes as he rests his chin on a clenched hand. His loose collar and shoulders dissolve into sketchy lines, and a slender cane with an ornate tip rises from below, shaded with soft hatching and dark accents.
