Painting of many wooden sailing warships in battle on rough sea, with flags flying and dark smoke rising behind them under a pale cloudy sky.

Episode from the Four Days' Battle, June 1666, Second Anglo-Dutch War

A dense naval battle plays out over choppy grey-green water under a heavy sky of billowing smoke and pale clouds. Tall-masted sailing warships with furled and filled sails, many flying red, white and blue flags, crowd the middle distance, their hulls heeling in the swell.
