The dwarf Blasius Rauchmantl as an alchemist, c. 1710
A colored engraving shows a small, stout caricatured man in a black hat, round spectacles, and a purple coat, leaning on a cane beside a brick furnace where smoke rises from a crucible. Below the plate, lines of German and Latin black-letter text fill the margin, and a faint page number sits in the upper right of the sheet.
