A Tiger and a Sleeping Leopard, soft-ground etching by George Stubbs, 1788

A striped tiger lies stretched across a rocky, foliage-covered slope, head turned toward the viewer with a watchful gaze. Behind it, a spotted leopard rests curled in shadow beneath low branches, with mushroom-like fungi and flowering plants in the foreground. The soft-ground etching renders fur and foliage in fine, tonal lines.
