Painting of a blue-skinned Hindu ascetic with matted hair and beads, holding a trident and staff, on a torn tan paper.

Hindu ascetic holding a trident, Bengali gouache drawing

A blue-skinned ascetic stands full length on a torn, tan paper ground, holding a trident in one hand and a staff in the other. He wears a red loincloth, strings of dark beads, and long matted hair, with a black-and-brown fringe of hair falling around his body. The flat, bold colors and outlined forms suggest a Kalighat-style gouache.
